Nigerian Army Gets First Female Spokesperson

The Nigerian Army has named Lieutenant Colonel Anele Onyinyechi Appolonia as the acting director of Army Public Relations.

Lieutenant Colonel Anele Onyechi Appolonia has made history as the Nigerian Army‘s First Female Spokesperson (Director of Army Public Relations), marking a significant milestone in gender inclusion and representation within the military.

She will formally take over from Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, next week Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The Chief of Army Staff, General Oluyede, deserves commendation for promoting gender inclusivity. Her appointment showcases her exceptional leadership skills, strategic thinking, and dedication to the Nigerian Army which will inspire younger generations of female officers in the Nigerian Military

She is a member of Direct Regular Course 15 and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, takes over from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, who has been posted to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

Prior to her elevation, she completed a six-month strategic course at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and was subsequently posted to the Department of Civil-Military Relations.
