Operation HADIN KAI Commander, Six Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Ambush in Monguno

BY SUNDAY SAMUEL—Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), came under attack by terrorists in the late hours of 12 April 2026 at Charlie 13 location in Monguno, Borno State.

According to a statement released via it official X account by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire and successfully repelled them, forcing the terrorists to flee while maintaining control of the location.

However, tragedy struck after the encounter when the Commanding Officer, while moving to the scene to assess the situation and check on his troops, drove into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion destroyed his vehicle, killing him and six other personnel.

The statement noted that his actions reflected “the highest traditions of military leadership,” describing him as an officer who embodied courage, selfless service, and a commitment to leading from the front. It added that his decision to move toward the battlefield despite lingering danger demonstrated exceptional bravery and dedication to his men.

Operation HADIN KAI expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the fallen personnel as heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation. It said their sacrifice would remain etched in the memory of the Armed Forces and the country.
