Oyo Police Probe Fatal Truck Crash in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal road accident in Ibadan involving a truck and multiple tricycles, which left two people dead and others injured. Preliminary reports indicate that the truck lost control and crashed along the Oje Market axis, causing significant damage and casualties, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing driver.

According to the command statement posted via its official X account that preliminary’s findings reveal that the incident occurred when a Mack truck belonging to Bovas Oil lost control while in motion from the Beere area and subsequently crashed along the Oje Market axis, resulting in the unfortunate death of a man and a woman, injuring two other persons, and damaging five tricycles as well as a Toyota Camry car. The truck was driven by a male adult who is currently at large.

The statement  added that “immediately the incident occurred, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, directed the Divisional Police Officer, Mapo Division, to coordinate and collaborate with other security agencies to bring the situation under control. In compliance, the DPO promptly mobilized to the scene, facilitated the rescue and evacuation of the injured victims to the hospital, ensured the removal of the deceased to the mortuary, and secured all affected properties at the station for safekeeping.

In view of the foregoing, the Command has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and is making concerted efforts to apprehend the fleeing driver.

Consequently, members of the public are hereby urged to remain calm and to cooperate with the Police by providing any useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The Command also reiterates the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
