PenCom Pushes For Stronger CPS Adoption Among States, LGAs, Hosts Second Consultative Forum

BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR— National Pension Commission (PenCom) has held the Second Run of its 2025 Consultative Forum for States and Local Governments in Benin City, Edo State, as part of efforts to deepen the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) nationwide.

PenCom’s Director General, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran—represented by the Commissioner, Inspectorate Department, Mr. Samuel Uwandu, CPA—highlighted major recent achievements, including the timely payment of Accrued Pension Rights, the rollout of Pension Boost 1.0 for retirees, and plans to reintroduce gratuity payments for Federal Civil Servants under the CPS.

Other reforms presented include the new Pension Contribution Remittance System (PCRS) to eliminate remittance errors, NEC’s approval of a ₦758 billion bond to clear legacy liabilities, and the launch of “Pension Revolution 2.0” targeting informal sector workers.

His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Gov Monday Okpebholo represented by Edo state Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, commended PenCom for hosting the forum and emphasized that these reforms are vital for ensuring financial security and dignity in retirement.

The forum created space for meaningful collaboration, reinforcing a shared commitment to strengthening all key pension processes and ensuring that workers and retirees receive their entitlements as and when due.
