PenCom Unveils Revised Pension Investment Regulation, Circular On Securities Lending

BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR —The National Pension Commission, (PenCom), has released  the Revised Regulation on the Investment of Pension Fund Assets and a Circular on Securities Lending and Repurchase Transactions.

According to PenCom, the move is in line with its unprecedented daily release of new regulations and initiatives aimed at raising standards across critical pillars of the pension system.

The statement added that “the  much-anticipated Revised Investment Regulation introduces reforms designed to expand investment opportunities for pension funds, generate improved returns, and help preserve the purchasing power of retirees. Similarly, the Circular on Securities Lending and Repurchase Transactions creates new investment outlets for pension funds, broadening the scope of the market.

It added that “the two instruments strengthen key pillars of the #PensionRevolution2.0 by: Optimising investment performance while safeguarding contributors’ funds to deliver sustainable long-term returns; and unlocking pension assets as a dependable source of financing for national development.

The commission assured that it will release further details and highlights of both the Revised Investment Regulation and the Securities Lending Circular in the coming days.

The commission also, reassured that with the two key regulatory instruments,  the pension investment horizon will soar to a greater heights.
