BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR–The National Pension Commission ( PenCom) on Thursday said the total pension asset of the industry grew by N1.77trillion at the end of first half of the year 2023.
While noting that the pension asset also grew from N14.99 trillion as at the end of December 2022 to N16.76 trillion as at end of June 2023.
The commission disclosed this at a one day workshop with the theme “Transforming Service Delivery in the Pension Industry: Strategies for Improving Efficiency and Customer Satisfaction,” organised for journalists in Lagos, that membership also increased by 146,920 new contributors, from 9.86 members as of the end of 2022 to over 10 million members as of June 2023.
Speaking at the event, the Director General, Aisha Dahir-Umar, who was represented by the head of corporate Communications, Abdulqadir Dahiru, that the commission is proactive regulatory approach has strengthened the oversight and governance of pension funds, promoting transparency, accountability and safeguarding the interests of pension contributors.
She said the CPS has ensured that public and private sector workers can build retirement savings throughout their working lives, fostering financial security during their golden years.
Speaking on the theme of the workshop she said: “is both timely and crucial. It reflects PenCom’s commitment to continuous service improvement in the Pension Industry so that contributors and retirees receive the best possible experience.”
