Two Rivers lawmakers have appealed for leniency over the planned impeachment of Gov. Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Nma Odu.

The plea was made on Monday in Port Harcourt by House Majority Leader, Sylvanus Nwankwo, and lawmaker from Degema, Peter Abbey, during a joint briefing.

Nwankwo urged colleagues to temper justice with mercy, citing interventions by leaders, residents and constituents, and asked that the impeachment process be stalled.

“We unanimously issued the notice, but following interventions, we appeal for leniency and dialogue to resolve differences and halt impeachment,” he said.

Abbey also sued for peace, urging members to discontinue the process, in spite of acknowledging constitutional infractions by the governor and his deputy.

“Leniency would strengthen prospects for amicable governance and give them opportunity to adhere strictly to the rule of law,” Abbey said.

Both lawmakers were among the 26 members who unanimously endorsed the impeachment notice against Fubara and his deputy..
