For lifting the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Nigeria’s Super Falcons have won $1 million prize money, reports Business Today NG.
Late on the night of Saturday, 26 July, 2025, Super Falcons completed a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling final of the 2025, thus clinching a record-extending 10th continental title.
Justine Madugu tutored girls revenged the semi-finals of the 2022 edition of the competition also hosted in Morocco.
With this victory, the Super Falcons have reaffirmed their pedigree as the undisputed queens of African football and the world football fraternity are aware of this.
Moroccan girls kick-started the match on a good note, registering two girls in a space of 25 minutes courtesy of captain Ghizlane Chebbak which fired Morocco in front in the 12th minute, before Sanaâ Mssoudy added the second in the 24th.
The two goals sent the whole home crowd into a state of wild jubilation.
In the second half of the exciting and interesting encounter, Nigerian girls roared back to life. roared back. Esther Okoronkwo reduced the deficit after converting a penalty in the 64th minute to pull , and seven minutes later, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi scored the second to put the match 2–2.
Super Falcons put the ice on the cake by scoring the third goal through substitute Jennifer Echegini from Esther Okoronkwo’s free kick in the88th minute to complete the comeback and spark jubilant celebrations both on the pitch and across the whole length of Nigeria.
Super Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament, while Chiamaka Nnadozie, Africa’s best goalkeeper for the past two years, was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
Aside this, Nigeria also extended their proud record of never losing a WAFCON final.
