The numerical strength of the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) received boost again on Tuesday as the Senator representing Bauchi North, Kaila Samaila, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for APC.

With this latest development, the APC now has 74 senators, the PDP 27, the Labour Party has four, the All Progressives Grand Alliance has two, the New Nigeria Peoples Party has one, and the Social Democratic Party has one, bringing the total to 109.

Kaila, in a letter written to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Tuesday, cited the unending crisis in the PDP as the major reason for his defection.
According to him, his decision to leave the PDP was driven by the party’s internal challenges, which had “gravely constrained” his ability to serve his constituents effectively.

The letter read in part, “The Peoples Democratic Party has gravely constrained my ability to discharge my constitutional responsibilities effectively and in good conscience.

“As one deeply committed to the service of our nation and the welfare of my people, I have found it necessary to realign my political engagements with a more progressive platform that embodies good governance, unity, progress, growth, and discipline in the governance of our country.”

Kaila said his move to the ruling APC was motivated by President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, which he described as “bold and transformative”.

“I hold in high regard the bold and transformative reforms initiated by the President, aimed at restoring economic stability, strengthening governance, and repositioning our nation for sustainable growth,” he said.

The lawmaker, who stated that Tinubu’s leadership represents the kind of “decisive” direction Nigeria needs to move forward, also commended Akpabio for what he described as “exemplary leadership” of the 10th Senate.

The lawmaker concluded by pledging loyalty to his new party and reaffirming his commitment to national unity and development.

In what is described a move to unsettled marketers and raised fresh concerns about fuel pricing and foreign exchange pressure, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Friday evening announced the suspension of petrol sales in naira.
This announcement was contained in an email sent by the refinery to its customers at exactly 6:42 pm on Friday.
In the email, the refinery disclosed that the decision would take effect from Sunday, September 28, 2025, citing the exhaustion of its crude-for-naira allocation as the reason.
The notice, signed by the Group Commercial Operations of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, was titled “Suspension of DPRP PMS Naira Sales – Effective 28th September 2025”.
The company also asked customers with ongoing naira-based transactions to formally request refunds.
The announcement comes at a time the refinery is embroiled in a bitter dispute with labour unions over the alleged mass sack of more than 800 Nigerian workers, a development that has triggered outrage and calls for government intervention.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a major heartbreak as its founding member and Presidential candidate in the last election, Atiku Abubakar officially reigned its membership of the party, reports Business TodayNG.
In a letter dated July 14, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Jada 1 Ward, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Atiku stated that his resignation takes immediate effect.
The former Vice President, who served from 1999 to 2007 and contested for the presidency under the PDP platform twice, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities given to him by the party over the years.
He described his decision to step away as “heartbreaking,” especially considering his role as a founding father of the PDP.
However, Atiku cited what he called the party’s current trajectory, which he believes has diverged from its founding principles, as the reason for his exit.
According to him, irreconcilable differences have emerged within the party forcing him to part ways.
