The operation followed a distress report received in the early hours of 7th May 2026 regarding an attack carried out by armed hoodlums who invaded the community on the night of 6th May 2026, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.

During the attack, the assailants reportedly stormed the residences of two residents and abducted two victims to an unknown destination.

Upon receipt of the report, police operatives of the Nasarawa State Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and local community youths, swiftly mobilized to the area and launched coordinated operations which led to the arrest of eight suspects linked to the incident.

The suspects include: Adamu Alfa, Muhammed Alfa, Shuaibu Alfa, Usman Alfa, Ali Alfa, Isa Alfa, Adamu Alfa, and Ja’afaru Alfa, all from Rugan Alhaji Alfa, Rukubi Village.

During the operation, security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, four Bajaj motorcycles, and two expended 7.62mm ammunition shells connected to the attack.

The Force further confirmed that one of the suspects sustained fatal injuries during the encounter and was later confirmed dead while receiving medical treatment.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the operatives involved in the operation, describing the success as a strong demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration in combating violent crimes, while also appreciating the invaluable support of sister security agencies , local vigilante groups, community youths, and residents whose cooperation significantly contributed to the successful outcome of the operation.

In one of the operations, troops stationed at Ngamdu while conducting engagements within the area arrested two suspected terrorists identified as Haruna Adamu (32) and Ibrahim Adamu (20). Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects fled from Zamfara State into Yobe State. Items recovered from them include mobile phones, a power bank, identification card, suspected illicit substances, charms and other personal effects. The suspects have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

In a related development, troops of 254 Battalion under Headquarters Sector 2 arrested a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP informant, Ali Muhammad (30), at Ngamdu Market. The suspect, who had been on a watchlist, was found with cash, a mobile phone, identification cards, charms, a knife and an exercise book containing contact details of suspected terrorist associates. He has been transferred to Sector 2 Headquarters for further interrogation, with the arrest described as a significant disruption to enemy intelligence networks in the area.

Similarly, troops conducting a night operation around the Mubi general area in Adamawa State arrested five suspected drug peddlers found in possession of various items, including ammunition. The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation.

In another incident, troops deployed in Madagali, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), responded to a distress call on a kidnapping case and successfully rescued two victims, Barnabas Apagu (12) and Ruth Apagu (10). Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of other abducted persons still in captivity.

Additionally, troops in Kukareta area of Yobe State recovered a hand grenade believed to have been abandoned by fleeing terrorists. The explosive was safely secured in line with standard procedures.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, urging them to sustain the operational tempo. It reaffirmed its commitment to degrading terrorist capabilities, protecting lives and property, and restoring lasting peace and stability across the North East. Members of the public were also encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing operations.

Speaking on Friday while presenting the 2026 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly, Tinubu said the policy would target not only perpetrators of violence but also their financiers and enablers. He stressed that any armed group operating outside state authority would fall under the terrorist classification.

The president said the new doctrine would fundamentally change Nigeria’s approach to combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and related crimes, declaring that offenders would receive “no mercy.”

Tinubu also pledged increased investment in security, including enhanced capacity for the armed forces and security agencies through modern equipment and improved operational effectiveness.

To support this, the president earmarked ₦5.41 trillion for security and defence in the proposed ₦58.1 trillion 2026 budget, the largest sectoral allocation in the proposal.
