BY SUNDAY SAMUEL—The Lagos State Police Command has debunked a viral video circulating on social media which purportedly shows the recent arrest of Fulani men allegedly found with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu, describing the footage as old and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the video was from an incident that occurred more than three years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State.

According to the command, the recirculation of the outdated video as a recent event is capable of creating unnecessary panic, fear and apprehension among residents.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to state unequivocally that the video currently circulating on social media platforms depicting the arrest of some Fulani men allegedly found in possession of arms and ammunition in Ikorodu is an old clip of an incident that occurred over three years ago,” the statement said.

The command urged members of the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of undermining public confidence and peace.

It also warned social media users and content creators against disseminating false, unverified and alarmist content that could trigger public disorder, stressing that individuals found deliberately spreading misinformation or fake news would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has directed sustained deployment of personnel and operational assets to identified black spots, strategic locations and entry and exit points across the state.

The police said the proactive security measures are being implemented in collaboration with other security and safety agencies to ensure the continued safety of residents and visitors.

Residents were encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.

The command further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing prompt, credible and actionable information on suspicious persons, movements and activities within their communities.

According to the police, timely information from residents remains critical to crime prevention and the enhancement of public safety across the state.

The Lagos State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes between December 2025 and January 2026, arresting multiple suspects, dismantling criminal syndicates, and recovering stolen vehicles, firearms, and suspected fake currencies across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed this on Monday while addressing newsmen at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

According to him the successes were achieved through intelligence-led policing, targeted raids, sustained surveillance, and prompt tactical responses to criminal activities.

He said atotal of 25 vehicles variously reported stolen, fraudulently converted, smuggled, or unlawfully removed from motor parks were recovered during the period. Suspects were arrested for offences including conspiracy, armed robbery, stealing, assault occasioning harm, threats to life, and related crimes.

The Command also recovered several weapons and other incriminating items, including four locally fabricated dane guns, 13 cut-to-size pistols, nine live cartridges, one expended cartridge, fetish charms, dangerous weapons, and bundles of suspected counterfeit foreign and Nigerian currencies.

Police described the recoveries as a major boost to public safety, noting that the removal of illegal firearms and stolen vehicles from circulation has disrupted criminal networks operating within the state.

21 ‘One-Chance’ Kidnapping Suspects Arrested

In a major breakthrough, police arrested 21 members of a notorious “one-chance” kidnapping and robbery syndicate in Idimu, Alimosho area of Lagos in January 2026, following credible intelligence.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include three vehicles—two Toyota Corolla cars and one Toyota Camry—fetish charms, 21 bundles of suspected fake US dollars, and 12 bundles of suspected fake euros. Police said the operation significantly weakened the gang’s capacity to carry out coordinated attacks across the state.

Suspect Arrested Over Bomb Threat to Schools

The Command also announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a bomb threat circulated on January 21, 2025, targeting three schools—two in Ikeja and one in the Ogombo area of Lagos.

The threat, which caused widespread panic, prompted swift intelligence and digital forensic investigations. Although the suspect claimed he had lost his mobile phone before the threat was issued, police said investigations revealed that the same phone line was actively used by him to communicate with family members during and after the incident.

The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
