* Orders Restriction of Movement During Elections.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced comprehensive security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process during the upcoming Ondo off-season Gubernatorial elections scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.

In preparation for the elections, the IGP has deployed DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi as the coordinating DIG for the Elections, tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Police security strategies to maintain law and order throughout the electoral period.

While AIG Bennett Igweh, mni, and CP Tunji Disu are deployed as AIG and CP Elections respectively.

As part of the security framework, there will be a restriction of all vehicular movements on roads, waterways, and other means of transportation from 6am to 6pm on Election Day, with the exception of those on essential services, such as ambulances, media officials, fire services, and other accredited media.

Furthermore, security aides and escorts attached to VIPs are banned from accompanying VIPs to polling booths and collation centres to prevent disruptions. Unauthorized security personnel and quasi-security agencies will not be permitted to operate during the election, and a strict ban on the use of sirens by unauthorized vehicles will be enforced.

Special consideration will also be extended to individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those facing mobility challenges to ensure that polling stations remain accessible. Designated election lines have been established for inquiries and reporting incidents. These lines will be publicized as soon as possible.

The Nigeria Police Force urges citizens to report all suspicious activities that may threaten the integrity of the electoral process and reaffirms its commitment to fostering a safe and democratic environment as the state gears up for the elections.

The Police will also be working with the military and other Federal security agencies as collaborative efforts from all stakeholders are vital to ensuring that the elections are conducted fairly and peacefully.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), has arrested a chef and a security guard for allegedly stealing their boss’s property worth N5.5 million.

Investigations revealed that while Folorunsho moved away the household items and personal effects from their boss’s residence, the security guard assisted in providing the buyers for the items.

Items stolen included 5 split air conditioners, a chest freezer, a pumping machine, a fridge and freezer, one inverter, and jewelry. All the items have been valued at N5.5 million.

The suspects, Olusola Folorunso, 24, a chef, and Rafiu Mutairu, 47, a security guard, were arrested in the Badagry and Ishasi areas of Lagos, respectively.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 suspects comprising 113 foreign nationals (87 males and 26 females), primarily of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and their 17 Nigerian collaborators (4 males and 13 females) for their alleged involvement in high-level cybercrimes, hacking, and activities that threaten national security.

This strategic operation was conducted through a coordinated raid on a building at the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi, Abuja, where the suspects were reportedly using computers and other sophisticated devices to facilitate criminal activities.

The operation which was led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Benneth Igweh, on Saturday, 2nd November 2024, comprised officers of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command Abuja and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

“We are investigating the matter and scientifically analysing the exhibits recovered from them. The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigations. We will update the public on the outcomes of our investigations as and when due.”

The Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested of 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, 242 Murder/homicide suspects, 63 suspects connected with the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms in he last one month.

According to statement posted on its official Twitter handle by the force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi , that other arrested within the month are 217 rape suspects, 167 suspected cultists and recovery of 210 various firearms, 3172 ammunition of various calibres.

It also recover 118 stolen vehicles and rescue ¬64 victims of kidnapping across the country. Turning to recent crime-fighting achievements, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have made outstanding breakthrough in the fight against several types of violent crimes across the country, one of which is the arrest of a major arms dealer operating in Plateau State.

The suspect, identified as Jubril Musa ‘m’ was arrested with 2 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition (long), 1 makarov pistol, 1 fabricated bronny pistol, a single round of 7.8mm live ammunition, 2 rounds of g3 live ammunition, 4 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition (short), and a single round of 9mm live ammunition.

The suspect further confessed to supplying these various arms and ammunition to bandits and kidnappers operating in the state.

The Inspector General of Police once again reassures members of the public of the Police Force’s dedication to enhancing the safety and security of the country, implementing various tactical operations, intelligence-led policing, and community engagement strategies.
