The Ogun State Police Command has noted with concern a publication titled “Ogun Police, Tenants and the Peril of Criminalising Civil Disputes” circulating on online platforms, which contains misleading and incomplete information regarding a reported case of assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace in Ajuwon area of the State.

The Command categorically states that the content of the publication is a distortion of facts and does not reflect the professional handling of the matter.

The case was reported on 9th April 2026 by a family member of the victim, who alleged that the victim was involved in an altercation with his tenants over electricity-related issues, which reportedly resulted in physical confrontation and a subsequent medical incident involving the landlord.

In line with standard investigative procedures, the persons involved were lawfully invited, the scene and relevant persons were assessed, and statements were obtained from all parties involved. The matter was handled strictly as a reported case of assault and breach of peace, with due regard to due process and the rights of all parties.

Following preliminary investigation, the matter was managed at the level of the Division, and the parties were granted administrative bail in accordance with established procedures, while efforts were made towards de-escalation and amicable resolution.

Subsequently, the complainant formally withdrew the case through a written letter, confirming that the matter had been amicably resolved by the parties involved.

For the avoidance of doubt, at no time were any persons unlawfully detained. All police actions taken were strictly within constitutional and procedural limits, including lawful invitation, investigation, and administrative bail.

It is also important to state that the Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, duly responded to a media platform that formally sought clarification on the matter. However, the Command observes that the subsequent publication contained deliberate misrepresentation and selective interpretation of facts in a manner capable of creating a false narrative.

The Command further clarifies that the matter was investigated based on a criminal complaint of assault and breach of peace, and not as a civil tenancy enforcement issue as wrongly portrayed in the said publication.

The Ogun State Police Command strongly cautions against the deliberate distortion of facts aimed at misrepresenting lawful police actions and misleading the public. Such narratives are capable of undermining public confidence in lawful policing and due process.

The Command remains committed to professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the rule of law in the handling of all cases.

Members of the public are advised to disregard sensational accounts and rely only on verified information from official Police communication channels.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of five abducted students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, following a coordinated, intelligence-led operation.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta on Tuesday.

According to him, the incident occurred late on April 27, 2026, when officers at the Ipara Division received a distress call about a suspected kidnapping in the Sapade area. A patrol team dispatched to the scene discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Toyota vehicle riddled with bullet holes, with blood stains and personal belongings, including mobile phones, recovered at the scene.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a student identity card belonging to Gateway Polytechnic, confirming that the victims were students of the institution. This prompted the immediate launch of a full-scale rescue operation.

Ojajuni said tactical units, including operatives from Isara Area Command, Ipara Division, SWAT, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Violent Crime Response Unit, Quick Response Squad, and OP MESA, were mobilised for the operation.

On April 28, joint security teams carried out extensive bush-combing and intelligence-driven tracking along suspected escape routes, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Fidiwo axis in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

“The sustained operational pressure led to the successful rescue of the five victims,” the police commissioner said.

He added that the victims were immediately evacuated, given first aid, and later taken to the police hospital in Abeokuta, where they received medical attention. They were reported to be in stable condition.

Ojajuni revealed that the kidnappers engaged security operatives in a gun duel during the operation but were overpowered and forced to flee, likely with gunshot wounds. No casualties were recorded among police personnel.

He assured the public that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice, noting that bush-combing operations were still in progress.

The rescued students have since been handed over to the management of Gateway Polytechnic.
