BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR —The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Sunday reassured Nigerians that the recalled Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recently flagged by French authorities is not registered for sale in Nigeria and is unlikely to be found in the country.

Prof Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, Director General, NAFDAC, disclosed this today, that the recall by France’s food safety authority, Rappel Conso, was due to the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which could pose health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances. In response, the Agency has intensified surveillance nationwide to prevent the possible entry of the affected product into Nigeria.

According to her  zonal directors and state coordinators have been placed on alert and directed to seize the product if found within their jurisdictions, while the Ports Inspection Directorate has also heightened monitoring at entry points.

She noted that noodles are on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation into Nigeria illegal. It further clarified that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands approved for sale in Nigeria are manufactured locally and only granted registration after meeting strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory requirements.

She advised consumers to remain vigilant, discard the recalled product if encountered, and report any suspected sale or distribution to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free line, 0800-162-3322. Reports of adverse reactions linked to food products can also be submitted through the Agency’s e-reporting platforms.

While noting that the agency remains   commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety of food products available to consumers in Nigeria.
