The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Mr. Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the acting Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.

He said the elevation of Disu to the position of acting Inspector General of Police is well deserved considering his high level professionalism, competence and contribution to the Nigerian Police for over three decades.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, described Disu’s appointment as an honour to Lagos State.

The Governor expressed confidence that Disu will excel in his new position because he has the competence, capacity and track record of good leadership as a seasoned professional and administrator who has distinguished himself in several positions in the past.

He said: “I congratulate Mr. Olatunji Disu on his appointment as the Acting Inspector General of Police. His elevation to the position of number one police officer in Nigeria is an honour done to us in Lagos State.

“Disu has served and displayed exceptional leadership in the Nigeria Police Force for over three decades. He has a good track record of performance at the state, national and international levels in all the assignments given to him.

“Having worked in various commands, formations and departments of the police across the country, particularly as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) known as ‘Good Boys’ during his tenure in Lagos State, I believe in Disu’s capacity to deliver on the new mandate to secure Nigeria.

“I am confident that Disu will bring his wealth of experience, garnered over three decades, to bear on his new assignment to meet the expectations of Nigerians for a competent, accountable, transparent, courageous and trustworthy police force in the country.”

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated with Christians and Muslims on the commencement of this year’s Lenten and Ramadan fasting season.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, greets Christians and Muslims for Lent and Ramadan, urging them to use the fasting period to seek the face of God in prayers.

The Governor enjoins Nigerians and Lagosians in particular to be more steadfast in prayers to God against many untoward occurrences in the country and seek advancement of our shared peace and prosperity.

He said: “I congratulate Lagosians and Nigerians, especially Christians and Muslims, for the celebration of this year’s Lent and Ramadan. The fasting period is very significant to Christian and Muslim faithful across the world. It teaches abstinence from worldly pleasures, steadfastness in prayers and total submission to the will of God.

“I believe strongly that the start of these two major religions’ activities on the same day is not a mere coincidence but God’s design for our nation and the entire world for peace and stability.

“Lent and Ramadan are important seasons in the Christian and Islamic calendars. It is a period when the adherents are expected to fast and seek God’s intervention in the affairs of man. The season teaches us the significance of abstinence for the sake of seeking God’s grace, mercy and forgiveness.

“As we join the rest of the world in observing this year’s Lent and Ramadan, I enjoin Lagosians and Nigerians, especially Christians and Muslims, to be more steadfast in prayers to God against any forms of evil occurrences in our land.

“Let us be good to one another. We should be tolerant and be of good behaviour to one another. Let us continue to offer prayers for continued peace, unity and stability in Lagos and Nigeria at large.”

The attention of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State has been drawn to some reports making the rounds in some online media platforms and blogs, insinuating that there is a rift between Governor Sanwo-Olu and his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

We wish to state clearly that this is not true. In fact it is the direct opposite of the relationship that exists between the two leaders.

For the avoidance of doubt, Prince Dapo Abiodun and Governor Sanwo-Olu enjoy a very cordial brotherly relationship.

The two brother-Governors meet regularly and speak with each other frequently on matters of mutual interest for the development of their respective states. This is partly because their states share common boundaries and are also bound together by socio-cultural norms.

We, therefore would like to advise those seeking to plant a seed of discord between the two leaders with fake news to desist forthwith as both Prince Dapo Abiodun and Mr. Sanwo-Olu are bound by common vision to make life more abundant for their respective people.
