Security expert Zagazola Makama, has disclosed that security operatives in Enugu State have arrested two suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in connection with a series of coordinated terrorist attacks across the state

According to Makama, the suspects—51-year-old Ferdinand Udegbe, popularly known as “Gentle,” and 49-year-old Igbokwe Francis, alias “Onye Ali”—were arrested during a dawn raid on Saturday, July 5, 2025 following credible intelligence. Both suspects hail from Mgbowo communities in Awgu Local Government Area.

Described by security sources as “hardened operatives,” the duo is alleged to have played central roles in past subversive activities targeting critical infrastructure and security personnel in the region.

The arrests were made as part of a broader, intensified security operation aimed at dismantling separatist-linked terror cells and restoring peace to southeastern Nigeria. The suspects are currently being interrogated and profiled at a secure operations facility known as Octopus Base, as investigations continue to track down other members of the syndicate.

A source at the Enugu State Police Command, who confirmed the arrests, called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely and actionable information.

“We are committed to restoring law and order in the state. The public has a crucial role to play in defeating the threats posed by criminal elements,” the source said.

The latest arrests underscore ongoing concerns over violent agitation in the southeast and the government’s resolve to curtail the operations of proscribed groups and their armed affiliates.
