Tragedy In Ondo As Teenage Siblings Drown After Heavy Rain, Bodies Found Along Riverbank

Residents of Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State,  are presently in a mourning mood as tragedy struck on the evening of  Tuesday, 5 August, 2025 following the drowning of two siblings in the community, reports Business Today NG.
It was gathered that the teenage boys were swept away in an attempt to cross the popular Omileye River in the area while on their way home.
According to a resident, who simply identified her as Jumoke, said  the  two brothers had gone to their father’s shop, who is a motorcycle mechanic, after the summer class but left his shop in the night after the heavy rain subsided.
The worried father was said to have raised the alarm after returning home when he could not find his children, after which a search party was organised to locate the whereabouts of the children.
The lifeless bodies of the boys were discovered at different locations along the stretch of the river after several hours of search.
“It was a terrible day. When their father got home and he did not see them after a few minutes, he became worried. When the family and their neighbours began looking for them, others joined.
“After a few hours of the search, their bodies were found trapped between pieces of wood along the riverbank. The river was already overflowing when the children decided to cross it.” Jumoke said.
Speaking on the sad development when contacted, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, said that the incident had not been reported at any police station in the area, assured that a detective would be assigned to commence an investigation into the matter.
