Universal Insurance Plc has once again demonstrated strong leadership in corporate social responsibility, emerging as the Best Insurance Company Supporting Youth Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention Programmes in Nigeria.

The award was presented at the 11th National Summit on Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention, organised by the African Youths Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP).

The summit recognises organisations that have shown exceptional leadership in promoting safer communities, reducing crime, and empowering young people as positive agents of change.

Through the support of Universal Insurance AYICRIP has successfully implemented advocacy programmes, nationwide awareness campaigns, and youth-focused initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of crime while fostering a culture of responsibility and civic engagement among young people.

In a statement, the company said it has consistently embraced initiatives that promote crime prevention and youth development, noting that it has championed awareness campaigns against drug and substance abuse across the country. According to the statement, the company recognises the critical link between substance abuse, crime, and social instability.

“Universal Insurance Plc has been widely commended for its commitment to crime prevention and youth empowerment following its strategic support for AYICRIP. In recognition of this impactful partnership, the company received an Award of Recognition for its outstanding contribution to crime prevention efforts across Nigeria.”

Speaking on the award, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Universal Insurance Plc, Dr. Japhet Duru, expressed appreciation while reaffirming the company’s commitment to deepening its impact.

“We are encouraged by this recognition; however, it is also a call to greater responsibility. We will not rest on our oars. This award challenges us to intensify our efforts, and Universal Insurance Plc will continue to support initiatives aimed at reducing crime to the barest minimum,” he said.

He said “The partnership underscores the vital role of the private sector in complementing government and civil society efforts to address crime, drug abuse, and insecurity in Nigeria. By investing in preventive strategies and youth engagement, Universal Insurance Plc continues to demonstrate leadership in promoting social stability and sustainable national development.

“This recognition further strengthens the company’s reputation as a socially responsible organisation—committed not only to providing reliable insurance solutions, but also to safeguarding the wellbeing, safety, and future of communities across Nigeria.”
