BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR—The West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) has partnered with the Organization of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers (OESAI) to broaden participation in the annual Insurance Quiz Competition, extending the initiative to insurance professionals across Anglophone West Africa.

The competition, which has been sponsored by Ghana Re for the past five years, has grown into a highly anticipated platform for showcasing insurance knowledge, professional expertise, and industry insights. More than 500 teams, each made up of three members, have participated over the years. This year’s edition is expected to be even bigger, with teams from West Africa joining the regional contest for the first time.

In 2025, the competition attracted 84 teams from across the OESAI region. With the inclusion of WAICA member companies, organisers are targeting participation from more than 120 teams in 2026, further strengthening regional collaboration and professional development within the insurance industry.

Speaking on the partnership, WAICA Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer, Davis Iyasere, expressed confidence that young insurance professionals across the sub-region would take advantage of the opportunity to demonstrate their competence and deepen their understanding of the industry.

“This competition provides an excellent platform for young insurance professionals to showcase their knowledge and understanding of insurance, both as a profession and as a business,” he said.

As part of activities leading up to the competition, OESAI will host its Regional Quiz Virtual Café, a pre-competition knowledge-sharing platform that has become popular among insurance practitioners across Africa. The sessions provide participants with opportunities to exchange ideas, discuss industry trends, and prepare for the quiz challenge.

Insurance companies and teams across the sub-region are encouraged to participate in the Virtual Café sessions scheduled for June 26 and July 3, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. GMT.

The OESAI Regional Quiz Challenge will commence on July 10, 2026, and continue on July 17 and July 24, culminating in a grand finale where the best-performing teams will battle for the coveted title of OESAI Regional Quiz Challenge Champions.

Interested teams can register by providing their team name, captain’s name, team members’ details, and contact information through the registration link: https://bit.ly/OESAIQUIZ6.

With registration slots limited, prospective participants are encouraged to register early and be part of what promises to be an exciting celebration of insurance knowledge and regional cooperation.
