WAICA Re Makes Two  New Appointments

BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR—WAICA Re has announced the appointment of Clement Owusu as its new Group Chief Commercial Officer and Steve Odjugo, previously Regional Director of Waica Re Nigeria, now replacing Clement Owusu as Group Chief Technical Officer. Both appointments takes effect from 1 January 2024.

Before his appointment, Owusu holds a BSc. Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana Business School and MBA Finance with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He attended the West African Insurance Institute in The Gambia where he was awarded the prize for the Highest Scholastic Achievement.

He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. Mr. Owusu has also attended several seminars and workshops, some of which are:

  • Ghana Market Reinsurance Seminar
  • International Aviation Insurance Course (Willis, London)
  • Comprehensive Technical Programme in General Insurance (National Insurance Academy,Pune, India)

Mr. Owusu has also written various articles on insurance for the Ghana Market as well as the CII Journal.Prior to his appointment, He worked as an underwriter with Ghana Reinsurance Company Ltd from 2006.

Mr. Owusu is a visiting lecturer at the West African Insurance Institute in Banjul, The Gambia. He is a member of Royal Insurance Gambia Ltd.

Mr Steve Odjugo, prior to joining WAICA Re, he was the Head of Anglophone (West Africa) at Reinsurance Solutions International, Abidjan. Before this, he was at Continental Reinsurance plc where he occupied the positions of Group Head, Technical Training & Quality Assurance, Regional Director (Anglophone West Africa) and Practice Leader, Energy & Special Risks at different times.

He is a Chartered Insurer with close to three decades of professional practice experience across direct insurance underwriting, insurance/reinsurance broking and reinsurance underwriting and management.

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Insurance Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Master of Business Administration degree in International Business. He is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School Advanced Management Program (AMP 24).
