Following last week’s protest by some retired soldiers in Abuja, over non-payment of their statutory entitlements, the Military Pensions Board (MPB) In Abuja, the board has assured veterans that it will continue to value and addressed their specific concerns.
The Board’s Public Relations Officers, Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, gave the assurance through a statement issued on Sunday, 10 August, 2025.
“The transparent exchange not only addressed the specific concerns of the attendees but also helped strengthen mutual understanding and trust between the Board and the veteran community.” Mohammed said in the statement
The board image-maker in the statement encourages all retirees to continue to channel any concerns through the official communication platforms, assuring that all matters within its purview will be addressed promptly and transparently.
“Under AVM Adamu’s leadership, and guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Board remains steadfast in fostering inclusiveness, accountability, and a higher standard of service delivery to Nigeria’s retired servicemen and women,” he said.
According to Mohammed, prior to the protest the Chairman of the MPB, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu, had met with some retirees where they expressed their grievance.
He said, “ In recent weeks, some voluntary retirees expressed concerns over unpaid entitlements. While several of the listed claims fell outside the jurisdiction of the MPB, the gratuity component, being within the Board’s mandate, was given immediate attention.”
Mohammed further noted that the board chairman met with some retirees immediately after the protest to discuss ways forward.
“In line with his open-door policy and proactive leadership approach, the Chairman of the MPB, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu, invited the concerned retirees to a roundtable discussion at the Board’s headquarters in Abuja on the 6th and 8th of August 2025,” the PRO said.
“The meetings, which were attended by the Chairman, the Directors of Army, Navy, and Air Force Pensions, as well as other senior officers, were elaborate and highly interactive. During the sessions, the retirees were taken through the step-by-step process of how their gratuities were calculated, with clarifications provided on all queries raised, he said
The statement follows last week’s protest by some retired soldiers, who barricaded the main entrance of the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja over non-payment of their statutory entitlements.
The protesters, comprising male and female veterans, demanded the immediate payment of outstanding gratuity balances, Security Debarment Allowance (SDA), and parking allowances allegedly withheld since their discharge from the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
