Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal. on Wednesday, denied rumours making the rounds that he contemplating of dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for either the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reports Business Today NG.
Lawal, who stated this while peaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Wednesday, 8 June, 2025, explained that he remains a committed member of the PDP and has no plans to join any other political party.
“First of all, I’m glad that you said a rumour that APC, ADC and whatever political parties are calling on me to join their party.
“I made it clear that I am a PDP card-carrying member and I am still in PDP, I have no intention of going anywhere.
“So, what you heard is a rumour. I am still in PDP and have no intention of going anywhere for now,” the governor said, just as he also dismissed claims that he may be seeking cover in the APC to escape mounting pressure from opposition forces in the state, saying he does not fear any of them.
According to Lawal, the same political forces — including former governors Sani Yerima and Bello Matawalle — were active in 2023, but he still emerged victorious.
“I’m not afraid of anybody. They were there in 2023. I defeated them, and I will do it again in 2027,” he stated.
While acknowledging internal challenges within the PDP, the governor said efforts are ongoing to resolve the crisis and that the situation will soon stabilise.
Lawal also clarified that although he has a cordial relationship with President Bola Tinubu, it does not translate into political alignment.
On whether he would support Tinubu in 2027, Lawal said, “Let’s see how events will unfold. There is still time to 2027, we still have two years down the line.
“I don’t think politics should be the main issue right now. I think we should focus on governance.”
