The speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan may contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been dismissed by a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu.

Momodu, who stated this while speaking on Friday during an interview, said entrenched interests within the PDP remain opposed to Jonathan’s return to the party’s ticket.

According to him, the political meetings, such as Jonathan’s recent interactions with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, should not be interpreted as a sign of an alliance.

The ADC chieftain, who noted that politicians frequently meet for various reasons, also observed that speculation is common in politics, citing public reactions to a recent meeting between Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu.

“Those who are saying former President Jonathan will run on the platform of PDP, I doubt it, because those who are determined to kill PDP are still very much entrenched.

“Those who say he and former Governor Peter Obi are meeting—politicians meet all the time.

“The other day, when we saw the picture of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with President Bola Tinubu, people speculated that he was going to dump NNPP and join APC.

“People speculate a lot. This is not a time to speculate; this is a time to focus and strategise.

“So all this noise about ‘he will go there’, let people go. In a democracy, if you cannot agree on a consensus, then let there be a primary. Let them go to the poll, and whoever wins, so be it.” Momodu said.
