The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has dismissed the possibility of any opposition alliance defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, reports Business Today NG.
Onanuga, who stated this during an interview on Arise TV’s Prime Time on late in the night of Thursday, 10 July, 2025, said, “Even if you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, there is no way the two of them can beat a Bola Tinubu and Shettima ticket. It is going to be impossible.”
Commenting on the recent opposition coalition, which adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform ahead of the 2027 polls, the presidential aide said the All Progressives Congress (APC) is unbothered by the realignment.
“They are free to form alliances, but as far as the APC is concerned, we are not seeing them as any threat,” he said.
The coalition includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola; and former Senate President, David Mark, among others.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu’s track record in office would be his strongest campaign asset, insisting that the opposition is “jumping the gun” by beginning early politicking.
“They are jumping the gun, it is not yet time for politicking,” he said..
I’m Not Interested In Becoming APC National Chairman-Akume
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has denied reports that he is interested in becoming the national chairmanship of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reports Business Today NG.
Akume, a former Benue State who stated this through a statement issued on by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga, described the speculation as false and distracting.
“The attention of Senator George Akume has been drawn to a publication claiming he is among those jostling for the APC national chairmanship.
“To the best of our knowledge, this is a fabrication meant to distract the SGF from his critical duties in the federal government.”
Akume, a former Senate minority leader, said his priority remains supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration to deliver on its Renewed Hope Agenda.
“His main focus, he insists, is to ensure he does not in any way betray the trust that President Tinubu reposes in him,” Odunuga said.
Akume said he is not seeking any internal party position.
“I am not in a race that I am not interested in,” he said, just as he also acknowledged that while the APC may zone the chairmanship to the north-central, other competent individuals in the region could fill the role.
“I am a firm believer in the principle that whatever God plans for you will surely come to pass.
“Everything I have been in life has been given to me by God through the instrumentality of people, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the SGF said.
