23 Schools Compete As Rex Insurance Holds Second Spelling Bee Competition

BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR—In a vibrant showcase of intellect and youthful talent, Rex Insurance Limited has successfully hosted the second edition of its Interschool Spelling Bee Competition, featuring 23 public schools across Lagos State—each represented by two outstanding students.

The event which was  took place recently at the company’s Head Office in Victoria Island, Lagos was designed to promote literacy, build confidence, and encourage healthy academic competition among secondary school students.

Commitment To Youth Development

In her welcome address, the Managing Director of Rex Insurance, Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting education and youth-focused initiatives.

“At Rex Insurance, we believe in empowering the next generation by fostering both academic and personal growth. We are proud to contribute to the development of young minds and encourage a culture of learning and healthy competition,” she said.

Representing the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebisi Omolaoye, Education District IV Coordinator, commended Rex Insurance for its impactful contribution to the academic development of students. She emphasized the essential role of public–private collaboration in driving educational excellence.

Competitive Rounds Showcase Brilliance and Composure

The competition featured three rigorous rounds, with participants demonstrating outstanding spelling skills, composure, and quick thinking before a distinguished panel of judges from Rex Insurance. The judges included: Ngozi Onyeme, Assistant General Manager, Legal Services; Wilson Okoh-Esene, Head, Corporate Communications & Customer Experience; Victoria Udoh, Team Lead, Learning & Development/HRBP and Franklin Obidigbo, Facilities & Project Manager.

After a highly competitive session, the following schools emerged as the top performers:

-1st Place: Gbaja Girls Senior Secondary School; 2nd Place: New Era Girls Senior Secondary School and 3rd Place: Obele Community Senior High School.

Winners received cash prizes, educational materials, and certificates. All participants were also awarded certificates of participation and educational materials in recognition of their efforts.

Prizes were presented by the General Counsel/Company Secretary, Ms. Sheila Ezeuko, alongside the Head, Human Capital Management, Mr. Tudor Osademe.

Speaking at the close of the event, the Head of Brands and Events, Emmanuel Ndoh, expressed gratitude to participating schools, the judges, and the Lagos State Ministry of Education.

“Education remains at the heart of what we do. By empowering young minds, we are investing in the future of our community and our nation,” he said.
