A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has given Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and two others standing as sureties for the leader of the proscribed Indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, up till June 26, 2018, to show cause why they should not forfeit the bail bond of N300m due to Kanu’s continued absence in court.

At the resumed court hearing on Wednesday on the senator’s bail bond, lawyer to Senator Abaribe, Chukwuma Umeh, opposed the hearing of the suit on the ground that his client has not been served with the order of the court to that effect.

He said that until Senator Abaribe is served with the order, he cannot be asked to show why he should forfeit the bail bond.

The prosecutor however insists that the defence team is attempting to frustrate the progress of the case as Mr Kanu has absconded from his trial but the lawyer to Mr Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor disagrees with the prosecutor claiming that his client must have been abducted by agents of the state.

After the hearing of the suit, the ruling Judge, Justice Binta Nyako adjourned the case to June 26, 2018.

She also instructed the prosecutor to ensure service of the court order on the Senator who is expectoed to explain why he should not forfeit his bail bond for his inability to produce Nnamdi Kanu or he will face jail.
