Pension Operators Address Emotions In The Workplace

PRESS RELEASE:With the ever changing and constantly evolving work environment, these place various levels of stress on the individual and organizations.

Recognizing this fact, the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) put together a seminar to address some of the issues, tagged “What’s Emotions Got to do With the Workplace?’’

The online session which was open to pension professionals, sought to answer questions such as: Can I learn how to be emotionally intelligent? How can I master and understand my emotions?

Can I understand the emotions of my colleague? All of these and more were discussed at PenOp’s knowledge sharing session.

The session which had more than 300 pension professionals of various levels was facilitated by Yinka Akande, Yinka is the People and Training Lead at PenOp.

She is a seasoned facilitator adept at helping individuals and businesses upskill as well as access a competent workforce through
professional soft skill training and development programs.

She spoke about the critical components of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.

She was able to identify the various opportunities that come along with applying the values of Emotional Quotient for businesses.

Talking about being self-awareness, she was able to bring to the understanding of all how we can improve on our individual selves and breach communication gaps amongst the DISC personality types.

She delved further to explain the STOPP regulation on how we should manage our emotions as individuals.

She stressed the fact that for one to be motivated, that individual needs to be ready to challenge him or herself.

Pressing the gear, a little further, she spoke about the various ways social skills can be improved as well as the steps to building empathy as an individual.

She concluded that Emotional Quotient not only allows you build good and long-lasting
relationships, it also improves organizational growth and so she advised organizational heads to leverage on emotional intelligence, prioritize wellness and mental health Check-ins with their staff.

This session was part of PenOp’s many knowledge sharing session. The knowledge sharing session a forum that enables operators in the pension industry to network, share ideas and listening to subject matter experts discuss topical and relative issues.

Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) is an independent, non-governmental, non-political and non-profit making body.

PenOp was established to promote the operations of the pension industry, provide for self￾regulation and ensure that international best practices relating to the industry are observed by the operators registered in Nigeria.

lt is the umbrella association for all the Licensed Pension Fund uCustodians, Pension Fund Administrators and Closed Pension Fund Administrators (PFCs, PFAs
and CPFAs) operating in Nigeria.

Its role internally, is to add value to its members across all levels; information, education, visibility, networking, strategy, product development, etc.

Externally its role is to increase the awareness and visibility of the pension industry and enable external stakeholders understand and participate in the development of this financial sub-sector wherever and whenever possible.
