89,327 Artisans Embrace Micro Pension Scheme

BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR–89,327 workers have registered under the Micro Pension Plan of the National Pension Commission as of the end of fourth quarter, 2022, the National Pension Commission has said.

According to report posted by the commission via it’s official website titled  ‘Micro Pension Registration and Contribution’ PenCom revealed that “A total number of 4,715 Micro Pension Contributors (MPC) were registered during the period under review by 18 Pension Fund Administrators bringing the total number of registered participants to 89,327 as at December, 2022.

PenCom also disclosed that pension contributions received from Micro Pension contributors as at the end of Q4 2022 stood at  ₦42,118 million.
This, the commission said  brings the total Pension Contributions received to ₦368,034 million from 89,327 MPCs as at 31 December 2022.

According to PenCom, within the quarter,  2022, Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Limited, ARM Pensions Managers (PFA) Limited and Tangerine APT Pensions Limited registered the largest number of MPCs with 1,448, 1,205 and 1,065 respectively.

While, Norrenberger Pension, Crusader Sterling Pension Limited, First Guaranty Pensions Limited had the least RSA numbers with 7, 4 and 3, respectively.

The Contributory Pension Scheme was opened to the informal March 2019.

Since then, PenCom has continued to restate it’s commitment to deepen penetration across the country through various engagement with different groups and associations on the benefits of MPP.
