Alliance and General Insurance Promotes  Mental Health On Valentine’s Day, Donates To Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital

BY NKECHI NAECHE- ESEZOBOR–In the spirit of Valentine, Alliance and General Insurance Plc,  one of the foremost insurance companies in Nigeria on Friday took its  campaign on mental health and love to patients of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Yaba, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director, Alliance and General Insurance Plc, Folashade Olafisoye, said the company decided to show love to patients of the Hospital, who most people do not often extend love to.

According to her the  public places more emphasis on physical health, while paying less attention to mental health issues.

On its campaign on mental health, she said “We plan to stop the stigmatization of mental health and we are looking at  an environment whereby people could build an open community, where they should be comfortable and free to talk about mental health without been stigmatized.”

Delighted to see the company, the Medical Director, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Yaba, Lagos, Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye, said it was the first time an insurance company will visit the hospital in the history of the hopital.

Speaking further on mental health, he said: “Unfortunately, the society associates mental health to mental illness. Your coming here is dear to us, as  there is the need to promote our mental health through collaborations,” he posited.

On how to improve mental health, he urged the public not to do more than their ability,  whilst urging them to have enough rest and dont abuse drugs.

He noted that there is a relationship between mental health and love, noting that love promote mental health capacity.
