Presidents’ Day: US Embassy, Consulate Closes Today

The United States has announced the closure of its Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos Today، Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day.

The announcement was made on Sunday via its X Account which thus reads: “The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.”

Presidents’ Day in the United States, also called Washington’s Birthday, is a holiday that honors everyone who has serviced in the office of the president of the USA.

This holiday dates back to the 1880s and it used to always be held on February 22, which was George Washington’s birthday. But, in 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill, which moved a number of federal holidays to Mondays and now it is held on the third Monday of every February.
