Fulani Gunmen Invade Imo Community, Kill Three, Abduct Two

Gunmen, suspected to the Fulani herdsmen late on the night of Wednesday, 20 August, 2025 invaded Amakohia-Ubi community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State killed three , injured dozens and abducted two people.

According to eyewitnesses the trigger happy attackers, armed with sophisticated rifles, invaded Umuike village around 8 p.m., emerging from nearby forest and shooting indiscriminately at residents.
It was gathered that the gunmen carried the attack caught when community’s vigilante group were unprepared and by the time reinforcements arrived, the attackers had took flight into the dark thick forests, leaving behind trails of bloodletting, cries from the families of the victims of the dastardly acts.
An indigene, who gave his names as Smart Oke, confirmed the attack on the community’s WhatsApp platform: “Unfortunately, lives were lost, many were injured, and two people were abducted. Our local security is still combing the forest in search of them.”

Another indigene, who prefered anonymity added “This is the fifth time in recent months that they have attacked, but this one is the deadliest,” said a frightened resident, who spoke from hiding.

As at the time of filing this report, , the Imo State Police Command has yet to comment on the attack.
It was gathered night raid in Imo communities has been a contant happenings as local sources estimate that at least 50 villagers in Amakohia-Ubi, Agwa in Oguta LGA, and surrounding areas have been killed in similar attacks since May.

Similarly, according to the local sources, last June attack, 12 residents of Amakohia-Ubi and Agwa were killed, while a pregnant woman narrowly survived multiple gunshot wounds after weeks of hospitalization in Owerri.
