Court Sends Teacher To Prison For Allegedly Beating Man To Death

An Akure Magistrate’s Court presided over by Magistrate Odenusi-Fadeyi Olateju has sent 51-year-old teacher, Gbogidi Ojo Williams, to prison for allegedly killing one Abayomi Olamitoke by beating him to death.

The Ondo State Police Command arraigned him before the court.

According to the police prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, the defendant, alongside others at large, on September 16, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m. at Akunmi Quarters, Akungba-Akoko, conspired to commit felony to with murder.

The charge reads: “That you, Gbogidi Ojo Williams ‘m’, and others at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did beat one Abayomi Olamitoke ‘m’ to death.”

Oniyere said the offence contravenes Sections 324 and 316, and is punishable under Section 319 of the Ondo State Criminal Code.

The court did not take Williams’s plea.

The prosecutor asked for his remand pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Defence counsel, Benjamin Adeyanju, sought an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit.

Magistrate Olateju ordered Williams’s remand at the State Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and adjourned the case to October 7 for further hearing.
