The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has sealed a construction site and issued a 72-hour ultimatum to another property within the Lekki–Ikoyi corridor for unauthorised development.

LASBCA, which confirmed the development through a post on its official x handle, said its officials on Thursday sealed a building under construction at Femi Okunnu Road, Alexander Avenue, after the developers failed to secure the required permits.

According to the agency, adherence to building regulations is crucial to prevent the proliferation of unauthorised structures and to ensure safety and orderly development across Lagos.

Also, LASBCA issued a 72-hour ultimatum to QMB Mart to remove all illegal structures on Coastal Road and under the powerline.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Abiodun, the space was originally allocated strictly as a parking lot.
“The occupants allegedly converted it into a commercial hub, erecting a laundromat, clubhouse, and eatery without proper approvals,” Abiodun said.

“Development in Lagos must follow due process. Any structure built without approval or any change of use of Government-Allocated spaces without authorisation is illegal. We are committed to ensuring that the master plan of the state is respected.” Abbiodun said.
General Manager of LASBCA, Gbaye Florence, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to regular monitoring of all development zones.

“Our job is to ensure that buildings across Lagos are safe and comply with global standards. Anyone who puts up structures without approval will be tracked, marked, and appropriate enforcement actions taken,” she said, just as she also added that its enforcement exercise will continue across the state to eliminate illegal structures and promote a safer, well-planned Lagos.
