Police Rescue 17 Pupils After Armed Attack on Lokoja Islamic School

The Kogi State Police Command  on Monday said 17 pupils have been rescued after armed men attacked an Islamic school and orphanage in Zariagi, Lokoja, late Sunday night.

According to police spokesperson Saliu Afusat, the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. at Daarul Kitab School, where 26 people were taken, including 24 pupils and two wives of the school proprietor.

Security operatives were alerted immediately and responded to the scene for an initial assessment of the situation.

A joint team of police officers and other security personnel was quickly mobilised to begin coordinated rescue efforts.

Authorities confirmed that the operation has so far led to the safe recovery of 17 of the abducted pupils.

Efforts are still ongoing to rescue the remaining nine victims, which include seven pupils and the two wives of the school owner.

The State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, reportedly visited the location and ordered the deployment of tactical units to intensify the search.

The police assured residents that operations are continuing and urged the public to remain calm while providing useful information to support the rescue mission.
