Barely few hours after the sack of Nigerian workers by Dangote refinery hours for allegedly joining the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), the association has summoned National Executive Council Meeting over the matter.

The National President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Festus Osifo, who made this disclosure during an interview on Friday, said the union will arrive at the best action against Dangote Refinery in its NEC meeting scheduled for the weekend.
“We will call for an emergency NEC meeting by the weekend to decide on the way forward”, Osifo said, just as he also assured that all the affected workers will be re-absorbed.
Recall that the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has sacked all its Nigerian workers barely 24 hours after 90 percent of them joined the PENGASSAN.
The directive ordered affected staff to hand over all company property, complete exit clearance, and await computation of their entitlements by the finance department.
This was contained in a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by Femi Adekunle, Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, cited “total re-organisation” of the refinery and alleged cases of sabotage in different units as reasons for the mass dismissal.
The directive ordered affected staff to hand over all company property, complete exit clearance, and await computation of their entitlements by the finance department.
Dangote Refinery expressed appreciation for the workers’ services but the development intensifies the ongoing trade dispute between the company and PENGASSAN over unionization rights.
