The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education to launch 20 additional degree programmes across various faculties.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi, speaking on behalf of the Governing Council and University Management, described the approval as a major milestone that will broaden academic opportunities for prospective students.
The newly accredited programmes include B.Ed. Early Childhood Education, Library and Information Science, B.A. English Studies, Chemistry, and Information and Communication Technology, among others.
With this development, the university’s undergraduate offerings will expand from 25 to 45 programmes.
The institution’s spokesperson, Nnaemeka Ijioma, who confirmed the development a statement issued to newsmen, said the VC urged candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to apply for admission into the new courses for the 2025/26 academic session.
She also advised those who did not initially select the university as their first choice to visit a JAMB-accredited centre or the university’s CBT centre to make the necessary changes.
Lemchi expressed optimism that the expansion will enhance the university’s academic profile and attract more students nationwide.
