Lagos State workers must continue to uphold the value of synergy and teamwork for maximum organisational performance, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has said.
He spoke at the Opening Session of the 2-Day Training Programme tagged: ‘Team Building and Synergy Workshop for Peak Performance’ organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions held in Lagos.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner of the ministry, Dr. Akintola Benson stated that the wisdom behind the decision of the government of Lagos State led by him to approve training programmes for the workers is a proof that he recognises the importance of team work and synergy in achieving corporate objectives.
He said this also represents his commitment to fully assist the State Civil Service to appreciate and acquire the benefits that trainings bring to bear on the attainment of the strategic objectives of the government and the effectiveness of the institutions of the civil service.
He said: “The Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions is the government’s agent and trusted partner in this regard, and I believe that the ministry will continue to devote time and resources to the acquisition of all relevant skills by the officers of the Lagos State Civil Service.
“Of all the commentators, Carlos Ghosn made the best attempt to describe the wider benefits of synergy and team work when he stated that, “synergies are not only about cost reduction. Synergies can be access to markets, exchange of products, avoiding overlaps, and exchange of best practices.”
“I believe that the fear of those who think synergy would result in the loss of individuality is unnecessary. Synergy does not mean giving up what we want. It means joining to co-create so each is able to receive ever more of what attracts us through joining rather than opposing.”
He stressed that teamwork can be likened to two compounds, almost essential to modern life.
“It’s the glue which keeps a team together, a bond which promotes strength, unity, reliability and support. Teamwork is also the oil that makes the team work. It can enable smoother movement towards targets, can prolong forward momentum, and can help teams to overcome obstacles.
“Teamwork has the potential to underpin so much of what is valuable in work. In fact, maximised performance cannot be achieved without the teamwork synergies that are essential for effective organisational growth”, he noted.
