Another Blow For PDP As Dele Momodu Resigns From Party, Joins ADC; Gives Reasons

The Nigerian main opposition party PDP) is presently in a serious trouble OF resignation syndrome, especially from it top members, reports Business today NG

Barely few hours after the resignation of one of its founding fathers in the person of former Vice president and the president candidates of the party in the last presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,another top chieftain of the party, Chief Dele Momodu has officially resigned from the party citing what he described as the party’s takeover by antidemocratic forces.

Momodu, a former presidential aspirant under the PDP and publisher of Ovation International, in a letter dated Thursday, 17 July, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, announced its his immediate exit from the party.

“My reason is clear and direct Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and without, in broad daylight.

“It is therefore honorable to relinquish the remains of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly align with the new coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).” Momodu stated in the letter.

Momodu in the letter expressed gratitude to the ward-level party leadership for their unwavering support throughout the years.

According to political observers, his defection to the ADC will change  Edo State’s political landscape structure and ignites the momentum to the ongoing realignments preceding the 2027 general elections.

Momodu had joined the PDP in 2021 and actively engaged in national debates and party affairs.

His departure follows a series of resignations by notable figures disenchanted with internal party dynamics of party once described as the largest political party in Africa, the accolade now the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) has claimed.
