AXA Mansard Health has reiterated the critical link between healthcare access, workforce productivity, and economic development, positioning quality healthcare as one of the most important investments Nigeria can make in its people and future prosperity.
Speaking at the launch of AXA’s Culture of Care campaign, Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Health, Tope Adeniyi, said the campaign reflects a broader belief that care is not only a social value but also a driver of human progress and economic growth.
According to Adeniyi, healthier individuals build stronger families, stronger families support more resilient communities, and resilient communities contribute to a more productive and prosperous nation.
“Care is often viewed through a social lens, but it also has significant economic implications,” he said. “When people have access to healthcare, they are more likely to remain healthy, productive, and able to contribute meaningfully to their families, workplaces, and communities.”
He noted that across Nigeria, many individuals continue to face healthcare challenges that affect both their wellbeing and financial stability. The burden of healthcare costs often forces families to make difficult choices, while untreated illnesses can reduce productivity, disrupt livelihoods, and place additional pressure on employers and communities.
For Adeniyi, these realities reinforce the need to see healthcare not merely as a personal necessity but as a national priority.
“Improving access to healthcare is one of the most effective ways to improve quality of life and support economic development,” he said. “A healthy population is a productive population. When people can access care early and affordably, they are better able to work, care for loved ones, pursue opportunities, and contribute to economic growth.”
The Culture of Care campaign highlights the often-unseen sacrifices made by caregivers across society. From parents caring for children and professionals supporting ageing relatives to healthcare workers serving patients and employers supporting their workforce, care remains one of the most important forces holding communities together.
According to Adeniyi, caregivers themselves also need support, which makes accessible healthcare an essential part of building a sustainable culture of care.
“Care cannot thrive without support systems,” he said. “One of the most practical ways society can support caregivers is by ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible, affordable, and available when it is needed.”
As Nigeria continues efforts to expand healthcare access and advance Universal Health Coverage, AXA Mansard Health believes the private sector has an important role to play in helping bridge access gaps through innovation, technology, and inclusive healthcare solutions.
Through health insurance, digital healthcare services, preventive health initiatives, and customer-focused healthcare offerings, the company says it remains committed to helping more Nigerians access the care they need without unnecessary barriers.
However, Adeniyi stressed that the Culture of Care campaign is ultimately about a larger societal conversation.
“This campaign is a reminder that care should remain at the centre of how we think about progress,” he said. “When societies invest in the health and wellbeing of their people, they create the conditions for stronger businesses, more resilient communities, and sustainable prosperity.”
By linking healthcare access to productivity, resilience, and economic growth, AXA Mansard Health says it hopes to encourage broader conversations about the role care plays in shaping individual success and national development.
“Care is one of society’s greatest assets,” Adeniyi added. “And when care is supported by accessible healthcare, its impact extends far beyond health outcomes. It becomes a catalyst for human progress.”
