The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and major law enforcement agencies in Abia State have reiterated their collaborative commitment in tackling the fight against economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption in the state and across the country.

This resolve came out of the discussions the Ag. Zonal Director of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE 1 Oshodi Johnson had with the agency bosses when he paid courtesy visits to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC; Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Department of State Security DSS and the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, all in Abia State.

During the visits on Tuesday April 8 and Wednesday April 9, 2025, Oshodi made his first call at the Abia State Command of the NSCDC. The Corps Commandant in the State, Mr. Akinsola Aderemi promised to always respond swiftly to any call for reinforcement or intelligence sharing whenever the need arises, as long as the aim is to fight crime.

At the NIS Command, the State Comptroller, Dr. Samuel U. Agba assured Oshodi that the working relationship between the NIS and the Commission would be sustained to ensure that the end result of ridding the country of economic crimes is well achieved. “Both agencies have always worked together and we will continue to work together in the area of proper scrutiny of international passports and keeping a watch list on corrupt politicians and individuals at the border posts around the country” he said.

During the visit to the Department of State Security, Oshodi commended the DSS for its continuous partnership with the Commission especially in intelligence sharing and tracking of criminals and called for the strengthening of collaboration with the EFCC.

In his response, the State Director, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi recalled the working relationship between the DSS and the EFCC and stressed the need for both agencies to continue to work together. “Inter-agency collaboration is key for any agency of government to succeed on its mandate”, he said.

At the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General H.M Bello commended the Zonal Director for his effort at ensuring that the cordial working relationship with the Army is maintained. According to him, the Army and the Commission have enjoyed a very cordial working relationship in the areas of combined operational task force and training of some of the Commission’s officers. “The Commission has already proven to be the best in conduct, operation and has contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria’s economy. The EFCC is one agency that we are very comfortable with and we always feel at home with your organisation. We feel confident when we see your men working and I always see professionalism and confidence, and I see the same confidence as you walked in here with your team and how well you all appear. I urge you to continue to maintain the standard which your organisation is known for all over the globe. Continue in this part because no agency can do it alone, everyone is important in this fight as the overall objective is the same and I pray that this bond growS stronger”, he said.

He further suggested that training sessions be organised for his officers, to broaden their knowledge on new and existing trends in financial crimes, in order not to fall prey to some cyber fraudsters or breach existing laws on financial transactions.

Oshodi thanked the Commander for his words of encouragement and promised to maintain the tempo with strict adherence to professionalism and courage in the discharge of the Commission’s mandate.
