BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR-emPLE Nigeria has partnered with Medplus Pharmacy Limited to provide free preventive healthcare services to entrepreneurs at the Badagry International Market, reinforcing both organisations’ commitment to improving community wellbeing and supporting small business owners.

The medical outreach, held on June 17, benefited about 100 traders with free blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, malaria screening, Hepatitis B screening, medical consultations and medication support.

Findings from the exercise revealed that 25 per cent of participants tested positive for malaria, 22 per cent had high blood pressure, 15 per cent recorded elevated blood glucose levels, while four per cent tested positive for Hepatitis B. The screenings enabled early diagnosis, counselling, referrals and access to treatment where necessary.

Commenting on the initiative, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of emPLE General Insurance Limited, Olalekan Oyinlade, said the company remains committed to helping individuals and businesses build resilience through better health and reliable financial protection.

According to him, the partnership with Medplus reflects a shared commitment to empowering entrepreneurs by addressing health challenges that could affect their productivity, livelihoods and long-term prosperity.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of emPLE Life Assurance Limited, Jolaolu Fakoya, said the outreach highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare, noting that many entrepreneurs often overlook the financial impact of unexpected health conditions on their businesses and families.

Also speaking, Chief Distribution Officer, Funke Sanni, said supporting the health of small business owners contributes directly to stronger local economies, while the company’s Head of Marketing and Customer Experience, Rachel Owolabi, stressed that access to timely healthcare enables entrepreneurs to remain productive and sustain their businesses.

The outreach forms part of emPLE’s broader sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at expanding access to essential healthcare services, promoting healthier communities and strengthening economic resilience across Nigeria.
