Mutual Benefits  recently played host to students of Starfield Schools, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos. The visit was part of the company’s youth empowerment and professional development initiative designed to expose young minds to the real world of business practices and to inspire the next generation of professionals.

The event, held at the company’s head office, provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the operations of a leading insurance and financial services provider. The session aimed to educate them on the ethical standards, professional responsibilities, and diverse career opportunities available within the insurance industry, an important step as they begin to explore potential career paths.

Members of the various teams from the company  participated in the interactive session with the students, each representing a core professional discipline within the organization. They shared their personal career journeys, discussed the roles and contributions of their departments, and emphasized the skills and values required to succeed in each field.

“This initiative aligns with our mission to not only protect lives and property but also to contribute meaningfully to nation-building by mentoring the next generation,” said Ellen Offo, Head, Corporate Communication, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc.

“We believe in creating access to knowledge and opportunity and today’s session reflects that belief.” She added.

The students engaged actively throughout the program, asking insightful and career-focused questions that reflected both curiosity and a deep desire to learn. From inquiries about how actuarial science supports risk management to what marketing in the insurance sector entails, the conversations were rich and enlightening.

“It was amazing to see the students so engaged,” noted Kemi Bejide, a member of the Corporate Marketing team. “Their questions were mature and forward-thinking. It gives me great hope for the future of our profession.”

Speaking on the experience, Ms. Rosemary Anyeaji, a teacher who accompanied the students, expressed deep appreciation: “This was more than a tour, it was an eye-opener. Our students were inspired by the professionalism, warmth, videos, and knowledge shared by the team at Mutual Benefits. They are leaving here with a better understanding of the work environment, the available opportunities within the insurance sector and a clearer vision for their future.”

This initiative is one of many under Mutual Benefits’ youth development programmes that ,  provide platforms for  mentorship, exposure and training  as essential tools in shaping responsible and visionary future leaders.

Over the years, the underwriter has consistently opened its doors to students from both secondary and tertiary institutions, offering them valuable exposure to the corporate environment.

The organisation is also widely recognized for its youth-focused initiatives, including the flagship Mutual Benefits National Badminton Championship; a dynamic platform for discovering and nurturing young talent, among other efforts in sports like rowing, canoeing and sailing.
