BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR–The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and insurance operators on Thursday resolved to collaborate with states licensing offices in the country to ensure that only genuine insurance policies are sold at their offices.

The Head, Corporate Communications and Market Development, NAICOM, ‘Rasaaq, Salami, who disclosed this at a press conference held after 14th Meeting of the Insurers’ Committee held in Lagos.

He said the commission along with insurance companies operating within each states will be visiting states government to sensitize them on the need for genuine insurance policy.

He also disclosed that operators agreed to advertised all outstanding claim, this he said operators believe will help to build confidence and aid growth in the industry.

NAICOM had in October pledged to expedite action on prompt payment of claims.

The commission also said it will not endorse the recapitalisation plan of any firm that doesn’t clear outstanding claims of its clients.

The Commissioner for Insurance, Sunday Thomas, warned that such firms would not be certified to have crossed the recapitalisation huddle.

He, therefore, advised insurance companies to settle outstanding claims in their books.
