BY NKECHI NAECHE-ESEZOBOR—The 23rd President and Chairman of the governing board of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers. Mrs. Ekeoma Esther Ezeibe, on Tuesday promised to focus on ‘One Insurance Industry’ aimed at strengthening the insurance industry.
She disclosed this during a press briefing held today at the council’s office, she promised to have cordial relationships with the National Insurance Commission, (NAICOM), Underwriters and Loss Adjusters to achieve her ‘One Insurance Industry’ goal.
According to her ‘One Insurance Industry’ means we will consciously do things that will help us take our rightful place in the economy.
“As brokers, we play a sustainable role to the consumers. It is our responsibility to reach out to them, especially now that the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act 2025 has opened up fresh opportunities.”
On deepening insurance penetration and awareness, she disclosed that the pilot project will commence in Abia State.
To achieve this, she noted that her team will leverage its six area committees to drive insurance awareness and improve penetration across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.
On the choice of Abia, she said “Abia was chosen because we must begin where we understand the terrain and can measure real impact. The Southeast, particularly Abia, presents a great opportunity to spread the gospel of insurance.”
On insurance industry performance and the impact of NIIRA 2025 she said “ We continue to do better, even with the rate of our penetration. In this last three quarters, we have continued to do better, and that is why we must be deliberate about the things that we do so that we can get better.
“Nigeria insurance industry Reform Act 2025 is the key. NIIRA 2025 is going to put Naira in the pockets of the Nigerian insurance industry, and once we have that Naira in our pocket, that means it will reflect on the national economy and in every other thing that we do, it is looking good, and it will even get better.”
She also promised to continue from where her predecessor stopped, particularly by ensuring the completion and commissioning of the ongoing NCRIB building project during her tenure.
