Police Arrest Two Over Alleged Plot to Assassinate Prophet in Bayelsa

Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of Bayelsa State Command have arrested two suspects over an alleged plot to assassinate a prophet in Bayelsa State.

The arrest was carried out on January 28, 2026, at about 10:35 a.m., following credible intelligence, police sources confirmed.

The suspects were identified as Samuel Daniel, a 21-year-old male from Nembe Ogbolomabiri Community in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, and Pastor Elijah Oro, a 59-year-old male from Ozoro Community in Delta State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Samuel Daniel was apprehended within the premises of the prophet, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being a member of the Greenlanders Confraternity and claimed he was hired by Pastor Elijah Oro to carry out the assassination.

Police said investigations are ongoing to unravel the motive behind the alleged plot and to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command has reassured residents of its commitment to the protection of lives and property, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
