The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that armed men raided a students’ lodge and abducted 15 students in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, in a statement on Sunday, clarified that the operation reported as an abduction was, in fact, a sanctioned exercise by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo Zonal Office.

John explained that the police received a distress call about a suspected robbery but discovered upon arrival that the EFCC was conducting a lawful operation. “No student was abducted from the lodge as claimed,” she said, urging the media to verify information before publication.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, commended officers for their professionalism and urged security agencies to always liaise with the police when conducting operations to avoid misinformation and public panic.
