Security personnel at a branch of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Owerri, Imo State capital have caught a man who sneaked into a bank’s toilet during working hours and hid inside the ceiling overnight to hack into its computer systems, reports Busineess Today NG

An X user, who shared details of the incident alongside a video that has now gone viral on social media, stated that the unidentified man had entered the bank during the day posing as a regular customer.

By morning, staff returned to find the toilet door locked from the inside.

Upon forcing it open, they found the man in the ceiling. When the systems were turned on, they reportedly displayed the message: “Restarting. Click OK to accept.”

“Yesterday, a customer entered a bank. He went to the toilet, climbed into the ceiling, and waited until staff left. At night, he descended and attempted to hack the systems before locking himself in. This morning, colleagues discovered the door locked from the inside, broke in, and found someone in the ceiling. Upon turning on the system, it displayed a message stating, ‘Restarting. Click OK to accept.’,” the user wrote.

The video showed as the man was dragged out and physically assaulted by security operatives who stormed the location after they were alerted.

Reacting to the video, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the conduct of the officers, adding that the matter would be investigated.

“Unprofessional conduct. Too bad. Many indecent acts were spotted in the video. We will look into it holistically,” Adejobi posted on his X handle.

As of the time of filing this report, FCMB has not issued a public comment regarding the incident.
