The spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is the most serious global health security threat in decades. Many around the world are worried, in fear and panic due to the spread of Corona virus 2019 (COVID-19).
COVID-19 is a disease that can cause what doctors call a respiratory tract infection. It can affect the upper respiratory tract (sinuses, nose, and throat) or lower respiratory tract (windpipe and lungs). The World Health Organization (WHO) and USA Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC), declared COVID — 19 a global pandemic in March 2020. The symptom of this disease begins to manifest from the period of 3 -14 days after direct contact and exposure to an affected individual. It begins with Fever, dry cough, Fatigue, shortness of breath. The virus can lead to pneumonia, respiratory failure, septic shock, and death.
The COVID-19 can be spread when a sick person coughs or sneezes. They can spray droplets as far as 6 feet away. If anyone breathe them in or swallow them, the virus can get into the body. Some people who have the virus don’t have symptoms, but they can still spread the virus.
You can also get the virus from touching a surface or object the virus is on, then touching your mouth, nose, or possibly your eyes. Most viruses can live for several hours on a surface that they land on.
Basic Preventive Measure Against the Spread
- Washing of Hands: The disease can be prevented by regular washing of hands for 20 seconds and above or by applying alcohol based hand sanitizer, this kills viruses on the hands.
- Practice social distancing: It is possible to have the virus without knowing, staying home as much as possible and staying at least 6 feet away from others can be of great impact.
- Don’t touch your face: Corona viruses can live on surfaces you touch for several hours. If they get on your hands and you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, they can get into your body easily.
- Stay informed and follow advice given by regulatory healthcare providers.
