Universal Insurance Clinches Best Innovation Company Award

PRESS RELEASE–Notwithstanding the challenges facing insurance industry in Nigeria occasioned by harsh operating environment, Universal Insurance Plc has stood out as an underwriting firm to reckon with.

Its sterling performances coupled with innovative product design and development recently earned the company the ‘Best Innovative Insurance Company of the Year 2019’ at the Champion Newspapers’ award held at the weekend in Lagos.

Presenting the award to the company, Mr Feyi Smith, a former Managing Director, Champion Newspapers Limited, who expressed delight over the choice of the insurance firm for the award category, said that he has been following up with the progress the company has made in recent times positing that the award was a honour well deserved.

“This is an award well deserved. I have been following the progress Universal Insurance Plc has made in the past couple of years. I, therefore, on behalf of Champion Newspapers Limited, feel honoured to present this prestigious award to a well deserved awardee, Universal Insurance Plc.” he said.

Receiving the award of behalf of the company, Ogbuefi Paulinus Offorzor, the Executive Director (Technical), Universal Insurance Plc, expressed delight over the recognition and thanked the organizers of the award for choosing his company as a worthy recipient in that category.

According to him, the board and management are working assiduously to continue to deliver on its mandate as a risk management firm. He assured that Universal Insurance would emerge a mega underwriting firm post recapitalization of the sector.

“On behalf of my managing director, Ben Ujoatuonu who is unavoidably absent, the board, management and staff of Universal Insurance Plc, I am delighted for this wonderful recognition. I am overwhelmed by this award because we were just doing what we needed to do; unaware that somebody somewhere was watching our back.

I must say that this award has presented to the entire Universal Insurance family, a greater challenge to continue to put smile on the faces of our esteemed customers and I can assure you that Universal Insurance will become a mega company in the post recapitalization insurance industry,” said Mr Offorzor.

Universal Insurance Plc, one of the highly innovative and proactive insurance companies in Nigeria, has blazed the trail and surmounted many hurdles in the past.

The company which was established by the Eastern Nigeria Government in partnership with the African Continental Bank in 1961 through an association of Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation and Pearl Assurance Limited of London, has restructured its management and operations for the challenges ahead.
