Rivers State Executive Council has approved a budget proposal of N1.85 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year.

The budget, tagged ‘Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development’, was approved by the council presided over by Gov. Siminalaye Fubara.

Prof. Peter Medee, Special Adviser on Economic Matters, while briefing newsmen on Friday in Port Harcourt, said the budget would prioritise completion of ongoing projects across the state.

Medee also explained that the theme of the budget was a reflection of government’s commitment to development of the state amidst current economic challenges.

“The budget sum of 1.85trn would fund outstanding obligations in critical sectors including infrastructure, health and education.

“Agriculture, youth empowerment, culture, tourism, and ICT will also be adequately prioritised by the budget.”

Also speaking, Mr Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, said that the proposal was carefully scrutinised by the council to ensure value for money.

According to him, the approved sum is meticulously channeled to improving the welfare of the people.
